A source close to Ben Affleck revealed that the decision to split was "mutual and something that is completely amicable".
Ben Affleck appears to be quite heartbroken following his split with Ana de Armas. In a recent series of pictures that were taken on Tuesday, the 48-year-old actor was seen stepping out for the first time since he and the Cuban-born star parted ways. Affleck had arrived at his Brentwood home's front gate to pick up his contactless coffee delivery and while retrieving the tray of iced coffees, people couldn't help but notice his seemingly gaunt appearance, reports Daily Mail. The Oscar-winner's cheeks were reportely sunken as he appeared thinner than usual.
'He's really upset': Ben Affleck looks gaunt as he's seen for this first time since split with Ana de Armas to grab coffee... as it's claimed 'he wanted the relationship to work' https://t.co/II7josvRdb— 🅡🅔🅐🅛Ⓜ️🅐🅡🅛🅘🅝🅢🅕🅐🅝🗯 (@RealMarlinsFan) January 20, 2021
The Gone Girl actor's face seemed unusually drawn as his cheekbones protruded a little above his scruffy beard and his eyes were clouded with dark circles. As he bent down to pick up the Dunkin' delivery, his slimmed-down physique became quite visible. This comes a day after the Batman actor revealed his split from the 32-year-old actress. Sources previously claimed that the breakup was amicable but according to Daily Mail, the Knives Out actress was the one who ended their relationship over a phone call. Soon after the pair's separation made headlines on Monday, someone was reportedly seen trashing a life-sized cutout of the actress in the garbage bins placed outside Affleck's home.
An insider told PEOPLE that the 48-year-old was completely invested in making his relationship work with Ana de Armas. "Ben really wanted their relationship to work," the source close to Affleck said. "Ana has a great energy. Ben was always very happy when Ana was around. She likes to stay healthy and inspired Ben to keep staying healthy too." Although Affleck "has been upset about the split," the source says that he "is committed to focus on the happy things in his life." They also added the decision was "mutual and something that is completely amicable."
"They are in different points in their lives; there is deep love and respect there. Ben continues to want to work on himself. He has three jobs lined up and he’s a solid father at home. They are both happy with where they are in their lives," said the source. However, another source revealed that the two ended things over the phone. "They have had numerous discussions about their future and they decided together to break up." Unfortunately, their relationship "was very complicated," said the source, noting, "Ana is young and adventurous." They added, "When she is not working, she wants to travel. She doesn't want to settle down in Los Angeles. Ben needs to live in L.A. since his kids do." Affleck co-parents his kids with former-wife Jennifer Garner who lives in L.A.
Affleck and de Armas met on the sets of their upcoming thriller Deep Water and quickly got involved in a romantic relationship. The two seemed quite inseparable over the summer of 2020 as they were constantly spotted together getting coffee, walking their dogs and running errands. They were also seen together on a trip to de Armas' native Cuba, before heading to Costa Rica for a romantic vacation. The Argo star also took the huge step by introducing her to his children Samuel, 8, Seraphina, 11, and Violet, 14. Then in June, she accompanied Affleck, his children, and his mom Christine on a family vacation to Georgia.
A source told PEOPLE that the actress got along with the kids very easily. "Ana seems to love being around his kids. Everyone has been getting along great. Ana is making an effort to get to know his kids," said the insider, at the time. Then in late summer, the two reportedly moved in together as de Armas was spotted moving things from her Venice, California residence into Affleck's Los Angeles home. "She had a huge grin and seemed very excited about living with Affleck," said the source. She also put up her Venice home on the market. The move came shortly after the two celebrated Affleck's birthday.
