While these two Hollywood stars might have experience keeping their private life out of the limelight due to their days as child actors, this was one piece of news they couldn't wait to share.
Home Alone star, Macaulay Culkin, has had his fair share of ups and downs in life. While he was initially one of the most coveted talents in Hollywood, his troubled childhood, family life, and puberty sent him on a downward spiral, all of which was broadcasted to the world. However, as much as he's been in the headlines for a variety of reasons, his latest news is one that will cheer up fans; he welcomed his first beautiful baby with his partner, Disney actress Brenda Song, according to Esquire.
On Monday, April 5, 2021, 40-year-old Culkin, and 33-year-old Song, brought their son, Dakota Song Culkin, into the world. What makes the newborn's name that much more special is that it's a tribute to Culkin's late sister Dakota. The latter had died aged 29 after she was accidentally struck by a car in December 2008 in Los Angeles. Their statement regarding the newest addition to their family simply read: “We’re overjoyed.” But this isn't the first time the Richie Rich actor has expressed his joy over starting a family.
He met Brenda on the set of Changeland in Thailand in 2017 but the news of their relationship came as a surprise to fans as they had managed to keep it extremely private. It had even surprised Seth Green, the director of the film, who told Esquire in 2020, "I didn't see that one coming."
Before everyone knew it, the two were truly committed to each other and that's when Culkin made his comment about having his own family. "This one's [Song] a good one, so I'm probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit," he said during an interview for a podcast called The Joe Rogan Experience in 2018. "I mean, we've definitely been practicing. I'm going to have some pretty babies. She's Asian, so I'm gonna have tiny little Asian babies. It's going to be adorable — a bunch of Sean Lennon's running around the house, that's what I'm looking for," he shared, referring to the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. "I have a pretty little family — a pretty girl, a pretty dog, a pretty cat, and all that stuff. We're gonna move. We're doing the house thing and all that kind of stuff."
At the time, it was obvious that the two of them were content with being with just each other for a while. For Culkin's 40th birthday, the Social Network actress penned a heartfelt Instagram post: "Happy 40th birthday to this magical being. I could sit here and write endlessly about how wonderful, kind, loving, genuine, loyal, honest, brilliant and hilarious you are, and how grateful I am that I get to share and do this life thing with you. But firstly, that would take me an eternity and secondly, you won't even see this because you don't ever use Instagram. My unicorn that I never thought could exist, I am luckiest person in the world because I am loved by you."
Then in 2020, the Party Monster actor reiterated his dream of having a baby with his beloved. In an Esquire interview, he said, "We practice a lot. We're figuring it out, making the timing work. Because nothing turns you on more than when your lady comes into the room and says, 'Honey, I'm ovulating.'" In the same article, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody star also gushed about Culkin: “People don’t realize how incredibly kind and loyal and sweet and smart he is. Truly what makes Mack so special is that he is so unapologetically Mack. He knows who he is, and he’s 100 percent okay with that. And that to me is an incredibly sexy quality. He’s worked really hard to be the person he is.”
And it seems that hard work has paid off as Culkin has not only continued to make a name for himself in the industry, he has also achieved his dream of having a loving family. So here's to the newest addition to the Song-Culkin household!
